Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall

The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected by Chaozhou City.

The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Yuancun Village, Jiangdong Town, Chao'an District, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

In 2012, the Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Chaozhou City.

Yuancun Village: Yuancun Village

Yuancun Village is situated in the northern part of Jiangdong Oasis, within Jiangdong Town, Chao'an County. It lies five kilometers south of the town government. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it was known as Yinxian or Yanxian. Due to the similar pronunciation of “Yin,” “Yan,” and “Yuan” in the Chaozhou dialect, it later evolved into Yuancun. The village borders Youyuan Village to the north, Cuntou Village to the south, Tingtou Village to the east, and Gewai Village to the west.

The entire village is surnamed Zhang. The founding ancestors, brothers Zhang Songshan and Zhang Songshi, migrated here from Shishi Lane, Putian County, Fujian Province, in the 19th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1386 AD) to establish the settlement. Initially, there were three surnames: Guo, Weng, and Zhang, but it later unified under the single surname Zhang.
