Gangke Ancestral Hall (Base of the Independent Second Regiment of the Guangdong Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army) is a cultural relic protection unit of Chaozhou City and a classic red tourism attraction.

Shangxilin Village, also known as Xilin Sun, is entirely populated by the Sun family. In the early Southern Song Dynasty (1128–1142 AD), the founding ancestor migrated from Yuetan Village, Putian County, Fujian Province, and settled here, naming the place Xilin. Later, due to the establishment of a new village south of the original settlement, the area came to be divided into Upper and Lower Xilin.

Shangxilin Village belongs to Shaxi Town, Chaozhou City. Before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was part of Dongpu District. From after the founding until 1961, it successively belonged to the Seventh District, Tenth District, Jinshi District, Shaxi Township, and Jinshi Commune.
