Changshanwei Fort

Changshanwei Fort is a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a patriotic education base.

The Changshanwei Fort in Nan'ao County is located in Huanghua Village under the management of the Shantou Nan'ao Island National Forest Park Authority, and is overseen by the Nan'ao Island National Forest Park Management Committee. Built in the 56th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1717) and reconstructed in the 19th year of the Jiaqing reign by Governor Jiang Youxian, it faces the Dalaiwu Fort in Chenghai and controls the passage to the open sea from Donglong. - During wartime, the waters from Changshanwei to Fengyu were areas where British ships anchored and engaged in smuggling.

In 1994, the Nan'ao County People's Government allocated funds to renovate the fort, which is now well-preserved. The fortification is rectangular, measuring 60 meters in length, 20 meters in width, 6 meters in height, and with walls 2 meters thick. The existing gate is constructed from stone slabs, approximately 3 meters high and 2 meters wide. There are stairways along the southern and northern walls leading up to the fort, and a tall platform on the western side was used to position cannons. From the top, one can overlook the opposing Laiwu Mountain and Fengyu Island in the western sea. A mountain path leads to the fort, and the adjacent Qianlai Garden scenic area features the Yixia Pavilion for enjoying sea views and a spiral stone staircase built into the natural cliffs, offering elevated views of the ocean.
