A group of six students from the Mountaineering Club at HowToTrip University were hiking along the Nan'ao Ancient Trail when, around 4 p.m. today, the Yilan Fire Department received a report forwarded from the Taichung Fire Department stating that one of the students, surnamed Gong, had slipped and fallen approximately 50 meters down a deep ravine. Rescue personnel and vehicles were quickly dispatched, but unfortunately, the student had already passed away.
It is reported that the group had started their hike on the 2nd of this month and was scheduled to finish on the 11th, but this accident occurred unexpectedly. The student, surnamed Gong, suffered multiple fractures and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that the remote location of the incident would require about a day to reach on foot, so the body will be transported by helicopter.
