The Xiangshan Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Xiangshan Site is located on the seaward side of the northwest slope of Xiangshan in Houzhai Town, Nan'ao County. It dates back to the early Neolithic Age. Since 1993, multiple surveys have been conducted, yielding over 150 stone artifacts from the slopes and stratigraphic sections, as well as a piece of sand-tempered pottery with woven patterns on both sides. The artifact distribution area covers 9,000 square meters. The types of stone tools mainly include scrapers, along with points, burins, stone drills, flakes, and cores, among which the herringbone concave scraper is the most distinctive. The materials used are mostly flint, with a few made of quartz, quartz sandstone, and crystal. All are finely small-sized, and the knapping techniques primarily involve unidirectional striking, along with alternate and opposite-direction working. Such stone tools are commonly found in the Zhangzhou area of Fujian, where no pottery fragments have been discovered, and are named the “Zhangzhou Culture.” They date back approximately 9,000 to 13,000 years. Similar finds in Guangdong are also seen in Tangwushan in Fengshun County and Piaofengshan in Panyu City, though in much smaller quantities.

Houzhai Town: The seat of the county government. Established as Longxi Township in 1952, it was reorganized as a commune in 1958 and became Houzhai Town in 1984. Located in the western part of Nan’ao Island, it covers an area of 29.1 square kilometers with a population of 39,000.
