Datang Cliff Carvings

The Datang Cliff Carvings are a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The Datang Cliff Carvings are located on the beach rocks on the eastern side of Datang in Huanghua Mountain, Nan'ao County. The carvings are 1.5 meters high and 1.6 meters wide, inscribed in relief regular script with characters approximately 0.08–0.2 meters in size. The calligraphy is slanted, the lines uneven, and the sizes vary. One inscription reads: “Female disciple Ou, in the seventh year, donated a well, one, praying for peace, recorded in the eleventh month of the Guihai year.” It is divided into four lines. The second inscription reads: “Li Ou Qiniang together with her husband Huang donated two wells, in the fifth year of Yibing, during the Zhenghe era.” It is also divided into four lines. Between the two inscriptions, there are three characters: “Craftsman Li Yi.”

On December 10, 2015, the Datang Cliff Carvings were approved and announced by the People's Government of Guangdong Province as part of the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
