Tomb of He Libing

The Tomb of He Libing is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of He Libing is situated on the right side of the mountain in Bogany Village, Guangming Village Committee, Mingcheng Town. It was constructed in the eighth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty, and faces south. It is a choushou-style tomb, with a pair of granite stone lions on either side. The structure consists of two levels, and the second level houses a stone carving of He Libing. The tombstone bears the inscription: “Imperial Song Dynasty, Esteemed Founding Ancestor, Late Jinshi Degree Holder, Former Secretariat Drafter of the Hanlin Academy, Later Promoted to Du Xunjian of Jiaozhou, Posthumously Named Libing, Tomb of Mr. He, Gongsun of the Honorable Mansion. By Nian Jinshi, Former Confucian Teaching Instructor of Gaoming County, Zhaoqing Prefecture, Gu from Fujian, in his twilight years, respectfully recorded this. In the thirty-sixth year of the Jiajing reign of the Great Ming, in the cyclical year of Dingsi, in the late spring after the full moon, the stele was erected. Restored in December of the year Yihai, 1995.”

He Libing was initially buried in Zhuyuan Mountain at Tangji; after more than two hundred years, in the eighth year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty, his remains were relocated and reburied at the current site known as Xianzhang Mountain. The stele was erected in the thirty-sixth year of the Jiajing reign, and the tomb was renovated in the eighth year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty—over one hundred and eighty years ago.

After assuming office, Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, visited and paid respects at this tomb.

In June 2004, during an administrative division adjustment in Gaoming District, the former Miaocun Village Committee, Fendi Village Committee, and Yunyong Village Committee were merged to form the Guangming Village Committee. From east to west, it administers 12 natural villages: Miaocun, Likeng, Baishikeng, Pincun, Songmutang, and from south to north: Yunyong, Ganjiao, Tangji, Xinzhai of Xinyi, Bogany, Luolin, and Fendi.
