Former Site of the Leningrad School in Chaling County

The former site of the Leningrad School in Chaling County is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of the Leningrad School is located on Hutouling in Pitang Village, Zhitang Town, Chaling County, Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. Originally, it was an ancient Yujian Academy. In the autumn of 1931, the Chaling County Soviet Government converted the old academy into the “Chaling County Leningrad Advanced Primary School.” Above the school’s gate were written the 11 large characters: “Chaling County Leningrad Advanced Primary School,” and slogans from that time were painted on the walls on both sides: “Prepare to implement land equalization and achieve national unification,” “Punish Japan,” “Revitalize the countryside,” and “Purify the bureaucracy.” In 1949, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Leningrad Advanced Primary School, which had been suspended for nearly 16 years, was reopened. In March 2006, the school was listed as a Hunan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a Chaling County Revolutionary Tradition Education Base.
