Overview: The former site of the arsenal is situated in a stone cave on the mountain behind Shenggongtan Village, covering an area of over 400 square meters. On January 12, 1928, after Zhu De and Chen Yi led the Nanchang Uprising troops to initiate the Southern Hunan Lunar New Year Uprising in Yizhang, Chiang Kai-shek, upon hearing the news, urgently ordered the six regiments of Warlord Xu Kexiang’s division to raid Southern Hunan in an attempt to extinguish this revolutionary flame. To evade the powerful enemy, Zhu and Chen led the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army to move to Shenggongtan on January 28. Here, they incorporated the bandit leader Wang Guangyou, formed the Rear Battalion of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army, and also established an arsenal in the cave, producing homemade spears, broadswords, rifles, and cannons in preparation to repel the advancing enemy forces.
