The Former Residence of Qiu Jin in Xiangtan is a cultural tourism attraction.

Introduction

Located on Youyi Lane, Shiba Zong, Xiangtan City. In the 21st year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1895), Ms. Qiu Jin married Wang Yanzhun and lived at Yuan Dang on Youyi Lane. In the 28th year of Guangxu (1902), Qiu Jin went to Beijing. She joined the Tongmenghui in 1905 and was martyred in Shaoxing in 1907. The original residence had ten rooms, all two-story brick-and-wood structures, seven of which were destroyed in a fire caused by Japanese air raids in the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944). The remaining three rooms have been preserved to this day. It is a cultural relic protection unit of Xiangtan City.

Qiu Jin (1875–1907), female, originally named Guijin, courtesy name Yuzhen, childhood name Yugua, later changed her name to Jin, courtesy name Xuanqing, also known as Jingxiong and Jianhu Nüxia, with the alias Hanxia Nü’er and the pen name Qiūqiān. Her ancestral home was in Lizi (Fukuang), Shanyin, Shaoxing, and she was born in Minhou County, Fujian.

The Qiu family was a prominent lineage in Shanyin, with several generations of government officials. From a young age, she enjoyed poetry and literature, especially admired swordswomen, and was bold and uninhibited. As she grew older, she studied martial arts, horseback riding, and fencing under her fourth cousin, developing a strong-willed personality.
