Not to be outshined by the yellow rubber duck, Taiwan’s iconic Red Duck made quite a stir earlier this year when it appeared at Liyu Lake. With summer vacation here, the Hualien County Government has brought in more little red ducks to join the big one, creating a heartwarming scene of a mother duck leading her ducklings—such a spectacular sight that visitors can’t help but stop for photos with the large Red Duck family.

The Red Duck family will be stationed at Liyu Lake from July 5 to September 8, accompanying both adults and children to enjoy a fun summer in Hualien. From 7 to 9 pm every night, there will also be a laser water screen light show—the first of its kind in Taiwan—every half hour. Against the backdrop of a dazzling night sky and using water jets as brushes, the show weaves music, lasers, LED lights, and projections into a variety of mesmerizing water screen displays, adding yet another popular summer attraction to the list.

Businesses around Liyu Lake have also become bustling due to the influx of visitors drawn by the Red Duck family. Rentals for swan boats and small yachts are popular options, allowing people to get a closer view of the ducks on the lake and take photos more conveniently. In conjunction with the Hualien Summer Love Carnival, there will be numerous musical performances across downtown Hualien through July 13. This summer, a visit to Hualien promises a diverse range of activities to enjoy.
