【Zhujiatai Shang-Zhou Relics Site】

In 1981, pottery and pottery shards from the Shang and Zhou dynasties were excavated at the Caiqiu cultural layer site in Zhujiatai, Sangzhi County. A polished stone axe (trapezoidal in shape) and a double-edged knife (curved in shape), both made of limestone, were collected at Nancha’s Yuetian. Judging from the shapes of the artifacts, they bear clear similarities to Shang-Zhou relics from the northwest, central, and western parts of Hunan from the same period. The pottery is mainly gray in color, with corded patterns and concave string patterns being the most common, though there are also shards featuring an “angle ruler pattern” reminiscent of the trim on Tujia ethnic clothing. This is a cultural relic that reflects a fusion of indigenous cultural characteristics and Shang-Zhou craftsmanship. The excavation of the Zhujiatai site provides physical evidence for the study of the politics, economy, and culture of the ancient indigenous peoples of Dayong.
