Chongshi Academy in Xupu

Chongshi Academy in Xupu is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Originally named Yanling Family School, Chongshi Academy was first built during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. In front of the academy lies a crescent-shaped pond, and the entrance gate features a brick-and-wood structure in the style of a memorial archway, with upturned eaves and carved dragons and phoenixes—simple yet elegant in design. Inside the academy, there is a plaque inscribed with the words “Foundation of the Great Learning,” written by Chen Bairui in the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty. It can be said that Chongshi Academy is an important physical relic for studying the development of China’s modern educational system and the architectural layout of traditional academies. About 50 meters beyond the academy, you’ll find a serene green river flowing through the town—this is the Xushui River. An ancient covered bridge spans the Xushui. Here, you can set aside the burdens on your body and mind, and quietly sit and rest on the bridge. Gazing into the distance, you’ll see layers of green mountains, with misty clouds in the far background and the gentle sound of the Xushui flowing nearby, while a refreshing breeze brushes your face. For a moment, a long-lost sense of happiness quietly spreads through your heart...

On October 7, 2019, Chongshi Academy was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
