The Majestic Xiangxi Bandit Suppression Victory Memorial Tower stands as a grand monument, commemorating the sincere dedication of the most admirable people of that era.

In the past, Xiangxi was plagued by numerous ruthless and brutal bandits who exploited the rugged terrain, caves, hiding during the day and attacking at night, terrorizing the locals and committing all kinds of atrocities.

The People's Heroes will live forever in our memory. Victory Park is situated on Tongtong Mountain in the northern part of Yuanling City, covering an area of 18,000 square meters. During the Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, and the Republican period, it served as the site of the regional, prefectural, and circuit offices. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was turned into Zhongshan Park. In the winter of 1949, the 47th Army of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army was ordered to advance into Xiangxi. Over the course of a year, they eliminated over 80,000 bandits and liberated 22 counties in Xiangxi. To express deep remembrance and gratitude toward the 47th Army soldiers who contributed to the bandit suppression, as well as to commemorate the martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives during the campaign, the local people renamed Zhongshan Park to Victory Park in January 1951.

The Xiangxi Bandit Suppression Victory Memorial Tower is 16 meters tall, and including the base, reaches 18 meters in total. Beneath the tower stands a 3.2-meter-high statue of a People’s Liberation Army soldier, with an inscription about the tower's construction embedded below. The other three sides of the tower feature inscriptions by party, government, and military leaders such as Huang Kecheng, Wang Shoudao, Yan Fusheng, Huang Zhiyong, and Cao Lihuai. On both sides of the park, four memorial pavilions have been built, each housing stone steles inscribed with the names of 1,005 martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the suppression campaign—commemorating their valor and ensuring their legacy endures forever.

On January 25, 1988, the Xiangxi Bandit Suppression Victory Memorial Tower was listed among the first group of 18 key martyrs' memorial structures in Hunan Province.
