Yuanling Monument to Soldiers Killed in the War of Resistance Against Japan

The Yuanling Monument to Soldiers Killed in the War of Resistance Against Japan is located at the foot of Phoenix Temple in Fenghuang Mountain Forest Park, within Chengnan area of Yuanling Town, Yuanling County.

In January 1941, Fu Fengwei, the Honorary Battalion Commander of the Chenyuan Military District stationed in Yuanling, led all his officers and soldiers in establishing the “Monument to Soldiers Killed in the War of Resistance Against Japan” for the unit’s fallen comrades who died fighting the Japanese, situated on Fenghuang Mountain in the southern part of the city. The tombstone is made of local red sandstone, measuring 1.68 meters in length and 0.57 meters in width. The words “Monument to Soldiers Killed in the War of Resistance Against Japan” are engraved in the center. The inscription at the bottom reads: “Erected with respect by Fu Fengwei, Honorary Battalion Commander of the Chenyuan Military District, and all his officers and soldiers, in January of the 30th Year of the Republic of China.” This is the only monument in Yuanling County erected by the Kuomintang army to commemorate soldiers who died in the War of Resistance Against Japan.

The site of the Yuanling Monument to Soldiers Killed in the War of Resistance Against Japan covers an area of 400 square meters. The inscriptions on the stone have become blurred, with some parts eroded and peeled away. It is now housed within Fenghuang Mountain Forest Park and placed along the roadside.
