Site of the Xinchang Battle

The Site of the Xinchang Battle is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province and a classic red tourism destination.

On the mountaintop of Dupengpo in Xinchang Township, 43 kilometers southwest of Jingzhou County, stands the Monument to the Xinchang Battle during the Long March of the Red Army. On September 19, 1934, the Red Sixth Army Corps fought a successful annihilation battle in Shanli Post of Xinchang during its march. The remains of the Red Army martyrs who fell in this battle rest quietly behind the monument. The Long March of the Red Sixth Army Corps passed through Jingzhou, leaving behind traces of battle, shed blood, and also revolutionary slogans in several townships that continue to inspire the unity and progress of all ethnic groups in Jingzhou.
