Former Site of the Command Post of the Shiwangping Battle

The former site of the command post of the Shiwangping Battle is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province and a national defense education base.

The former site of the command post of the Shiwangping Battle is located in Wanping Town, Yongshun County. In 1934, after He Long, Ren Bishi, and Xiao Ke led the Second and Sixth Red Armies into western Hunan, they established their battle command here. After two hours of fierce fighting, they annihilated over 2,000 troops from Yang Qichang’s brigade and Pi Debai’s regiment, capturing more than 2,200 rifles, laying the foundation for the Second and Sixth Red Armies to establish themselves in western Hunan and create the Hunan-Hubei-Sichuan-Guizhou Revolutionary Base. The site is a late Qing Dynasty civilian house built in a traditional post-and-lintel wooden structure with five posts and four beams, forming a quadrangle courtyard. It covers a construction area of 250 square meters. The surrounding wall is made of irregular red sandstone and bluestone, bonded with a mixture of cement and river sand, standing over 2 meters high and 0.3 meters thick—both aesthetically pleasing and sturdy. The main gate has six panels, and the doors and windows are decorated with “swastika” patterns. A plaque hanging above the door reads “Former Site of Marshal He Long’s Great Battle at Shiwangping.” On the board walls, the slogan “Carry Forward the Revolutionary Tradition and Strive for Greater Glory” is written in lime. This site was designated as a “Prefectural-Level Cultural Relic Protection Unit” on March 13, 1979, and as a “Provincial-Level Cultural Relic Protection Unit” on May 19, 2002.
