Ink Lake

Introduction:

Ink Lake is located west of Guiyuan Temple and south of Hanyang Avenue, formed by the convergence of more than ten large and small lakes, including Longyang Lake and Taizi Lake. In ancient times, it was one of the Ten Scenic Spots of Hanyang, known as “Pingtang Ancient Ferry.” The lake features a vast surface area with winding shores, and at its peak size, it spanned 30 square kilometers, being rich in freshwater fish. Legend has it that during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, after completing the Literary Selections compiled by Crown Prince Zhaoming, he washed his brush in the lake, turning the water black—hence the name Ink Lake. The area not only boasts beautiful scenery but is also associated with legends such as Bo Ya visiting a friend, Liu Bei hiding troops, Li Bai composing poetry, and Yue Fei grazing horses.
