Shedian Ancient Town, a national AAAA-level cultural tourism scenic area. Located in the southwest of Henan Province, in Sheqi County, Nanyang City, there is an ancient town with historic roads, ancient trees, ancient steles, ancient temples, ancient wells... Nestled at the southern foot of the Funiu Mountains, it is described as “embracing the Funiu Mountains and leaning on the Han River, gazing at the Golden Basin while sipping nectar; basking in favorable weather and blessed geography, rich in resources and harmonious among people.”-

Shedian Ancient Town, also known as Shedian Ancient City. Historically, the Shedian region was part of the State of Shen during the Zhou Dynasty, belonged to the State of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period, the State of Han in the Warring States Period, was called Wanyuan County in the Han Dynasty, belonged to Nanyang County in the Sui Dynasty, and was under the jurisdiction of Nanyang Prefecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Republic of China period, it was governed by Nanyang County. In 1965, Sheqi County was established, and the town came under its jurisdiction, becoming the county seat. It was personally renamed from “Shedi” to “Sheqi” by Premier [name omitted], symbolizing the “flag of socialism.” In 1989, it was designated as a famous historical and cultural town by the Henan Provincial Government; in 2004, it was officially renamed Shedian Town with approval from the Henan Provincial People’s Government, and in 2007, it was selected as a Famous Historical and Cultural Town in China by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

In 2013, Shedian Ancient Town was awarded the title of “China Traditional Architecture Cultural Tourism Destination,” and in 2014, it was ranked among the top ten “Chinese Cultural Tourism Towns Influencing the World,” second only to Wuzhen in Zhejiang.

In January 2015, Shedian Ancient Town was successfully selected as one of the “2014 China’s Most Valuable Cultural (Heritage) Tourism Destinations.”

Also known as Shedian Ancient City, originally named Shedian Town, also referred to as Shedian, Xinglong Store. The Shedian region was part of the State of Shen during the Zhou Dynasty, belonged to the State of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period, the State of Han in the Warring States Period, was called Wanyuan County in the Han Dynasty, belonged to Nanyang County in the Sui Dynasty, and was under the jurisdiction of Nanyang Prefecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

It governs 10 (communities) villages, 19 natural villages, and 53 village (residential) groups, covering an area of 16 square kilometers, with a total population of 49,000, of which 42,000 are non-agricultural residents. Shedian Town is the political, economic, and cultural center of Sheqi County. The Pan and Zhao rivers converge here, surrounded by water on three sides, and the town spans three hills. The transportation is convenient, with the Nanyang-Zhengzhou Highway and Fangcheng-Zaoyang Highway intersecting at this location.
