The Maocao Temple Ruins

The Maocao Temple Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Maocao Temple Ruins are located 4 kilometers east of Xinglong Town, Sheqi County, Henan Province. They are called the “Maocao Temple Ruins” because the original Maocao Temple was situated on the site. The ruins are surrounded by rivers on three sides, stretching 300 meters from east to west and 250 meters from north to south, covering an area of 75,000 square meters. The site rises 10 meters above the ground in the shape of a small hill. The relics found at the site are relatively abundant, with pottery fragments visible everywhere. The site dates back to the middle to late Yangshao period, corresponding to the second and third phases of the Qujialing culture in the upper reaches of the Han River and the Henan Longshan culture.

It was designated as a county-level protected cultural heritage site in November 1982 and as a provincial-level protected cultural heritage site in February 1987.
