Du Fengrui

Located 3 kilometers northeast of the county town, it covers an area of 3,875 square meters with a building area of 340 square meters. Du Fengrui (1933–1958) was from Zhaowa in Yanglou Township, Fangcheng County. In the spring of 1948, he joined the army and successively served as a messenger, bugler, and pilot. On October 10, 1958, he was shot down by enemy aircraft while parachuting after shooting down two enemy planes in a fierce air battle over Longtian, Fujian. He was buried near West Lake in Fuzhou. Du Fengrui was honored by the Central Committee as a model air force hero. The Air Force Command awarded him the title of First-Class Hero. The Party Committee of the People's Liberation Army Air Force called on all air force personnel to learn from his heroic deeds. His former air squadron was named the "Du Fengrui Squadron." National leaders wrote inscriptions and poems in his honor. The memorial was built in 1972, originally located on Xinhua Street in Chengguan. In 1990, it was relocated to the intersection of Guzhuang Road in the eastern part of the county town. It features 11 exhibition halls displaying the heroic life and deeds of martyr Du Fengrui, as well as a J-5 jet fighter—the same model he flew. A 5.3-meter statue of Du Fengrui stands in front of the hall. The memorial is named “Du Fengrui Martyrs Memorial Hall,” with the inscription personally written by national leader Zhang Aiping.
