Fangcheng Confucius Temple

Fangcheng Confucius Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

Fangcheng County Yuzhou Confucius Temple, located within the campus of No. 1 Primary School on Heping Street in Chengguan Town, faces south and was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit in 1963 and a provincial-level one in 1986.

The exact time of the Confucius Temple's original construction is unknown. According to the county annals, it was rebuilt in the third year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1370). Although it underwent multiple renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the architectural complex remained relatively intact. During the Cultural Revolution, parts of the temple were demolished, and later, due to years of neglect, further sections were lost. Today, only the Dacheng Hall and Jimen Gate remain. Dacheng Hall: seven bays wide, three bays deep, single-eave hip-and-gable roof, five-tiered bracket sets with double ang, post-and-lintel structure. The platform is 29.27 meters long, 15.40 meters wide, and 1 meter high; the terrace is 21.87 meters long, 7 meters wide (partially missing), and 0.86 meters high. Jimen Gate: five bays wide, two bays deep, single-eave gable-and-hip roof.
