Bowang City is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

Bowang City is located sixty li east of Nanyang Commandery.

*Reading Historical Geography* (Volume 50, Henan V) records: “Bowang City is sixty li northeast of (Nanyang) Prefecture. It was a county during the Han Dynasty, under Nanyang Commandery. Emperor Wu enfeoffed Zhang Qian here as a marquis. It also belonged to Nanyang Commandery during the Eastern Han. During the Jin Dynasty, it was part of Nanyang Kingdom. It was abolished in the Song Dynasty. *The Comprehensive Gazetteer* states: Bowang City is forty li southeast of Xiang City. Today there is a Bowang Post, and it is another sixty li east to Yuzhou.”
