Yuanhui Shuanglong Bridge

Shuanglong Bridge was built during the Ming Dynasty. Located in Wenshi Village, Wenshi Township, Yuanhui District, it spans the Xiaocao River from east to west and is a cultural relic protection unit of Luohe City. Historically, this was part of the official road connecting Luohe and Yancheng to Nanyang Prefecture. In 1975, after the new road from Luohe to Wuyang was completed and rerouted, the bridge was largely abandoned, becoming the main road for Wenshi Village to access areas outside the village.

Shuanglong Bridge is constructed from blue stone and features a three-arch semicircular design. It is 11 meters long and 5.3 meters wide, with the main arch spanning 2.57 meters clear and standing 1.9 meters high, while the side arches span 2.2 meters clear and are 1.5 meters high. The bridge is neatly built with finely worked stonework, and both the north and south sides of the main arch are carved with animal heads and tails. The original stone railings on both sides of the bridge have been destroyed.

Wenshi Village, where Shuanglong Bridge is located, has a long history and profound cultural heritage. Legend has it that during the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius, while traveling among the states, once asked about a ferry crossing here. Later, scholars renamed the village Wenzinzhai (Asking Ferry Village), and because Confucius asked at a crossroads, the name was eventually changed to Wenshi (Asking Ten), which has been used to this day.

Wenshi Village: Located at the junction of Xiping, Wuyang, and Yuanhui District, Wenshi Village boasts a long history and has produced many notable people. According to the Analects, “Changju and Jieni were plowing together when Confucius passed by and sent Zilu to ask them about the ferry.” This spot is said to be where Zilu asked about the ferry, hence the name Wenzin (Asking Ferry), later changed to Wenshi and still used today. Wenshi Village administers 9 villager groups, with 1,062 households and a population of 4,577, including 128 Party members. It has 5,828 mu of arable land and is home to Han and Hui ethnic groups, with over 70 Hui people.
