The site is located within Dongfeng Administrative Village in Nandun Town, about 5 kilometers east of the city center. The ancient city wall of Nandun is a relic from the Shang Dynasty. In ancient times, Nandun was the state of Dundizi, which had city walls covering an area of two kilometers square. After more than 2,000 years of vicissitudes, the original southern, eastern, and western walls have all been leveled to the ground. Only a section of earthen wall remains in the northeast corner, measuring 217 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 7 meters in height. Despite over 2,600 years of human history, weathering, erosion, and natural weathering, it still retains a majestic presence. The upper layer of the wall reflects the culture of the Qin Dynasty, the middle layer represents the cultures of the Eastern and Western Zhou Dynasties, and the lower layer belongs to the Shang Dynasty. In 1986, it was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit by the People’s Government of Henan Province. In the early Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Guangwu (Liu Xiu) visited Nandun and built a platform and temple 100 meters north of the ancient city wall ruins, later known as the Guangwu Temple.

Nandun Town: A Place of Outstanding People and a Long History Nandun Town is a place rich in talent and steeped in history. According to *Taiping Huanyu Ji* (*Records of the Taiping Era in the Vast World*), “Nandun was the ancient state of Dundizi. Later, it was forced to move south by Chen, hence the name Nandun. Its city walls were built by the magistrate Ziyu.” The Han Dynasty established Nandun County, the Western Jin Dynasty’s Emperor Hui set up the Nandun Commandery, and in the sixth year of the Xining era of the Song Dynasty, it was reduced to a town and incorporated into Shangshui and Xiangcheng. In the Ming Dynasty, it was merged into Xiangcheng, and in the Qing Dynasty, the Nanji Pai (administrative division) was established. During the Republic of China period, it was organized as a district. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it became the Sixth District. In 1958, the Nandun People’s Commune was established, and in December 1983, it was changed to Nandun Township. In 1988, the township was abolished and upgraded to a town.
