Huangmiao Ancient Bridge

Huangmiao Ancient Bridge is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

Huangmiao Ancient Bridge is located on the Nihe River at the southern edge of the city area, 27 kilometers north of the urban center. Built during the Qing Dynasty, Huangmiao Ancient Bridge is a historic structure noted for its high artistic value in carving and its well-preserved, classic appearance. The bridge has been listed as a municipal cultural relic.

Huangmiao Ancient Bridge is an ancient bridge situated on the Nihe River at the southernmost part of Xiangcheng City’s territory. Spanning the counties of Shenqiu and Xiangcheng, it was built in the late Qing Dynasty and is now 204 years old. The bridge features a brick-and-stone structure that is simple yet elegant, and remains undamaged after more than two centuries. On both sides of the bridge, the railings are adorned with six exquisitely carved stone monkey statues, each finely crafted and lifelike—masterpieces of Qing Dynasty stone sculpture. In the 1980s, driven by profit, some criminals stole the stone monkeys from the bridge. However, thanks to strong protection efforts by public security and cultural heritage authorities, the bridge has been restored to its original state. In recent years, several rounds of preservation-focused maintenance have been carried out on the bridge. Moreover, the new San Cheng Provincial Highway Bridge (connecting Xiangcheng, Shenqiu, and Linquan County of Anhui Province), currently under construction, is located right next to the ancient bridge. Once the new bridge is completed, traffic will be diverted to it, relieving the ancient bridge of all load-bearing functions. This will allow the historic structure to be better preserved as an architectural heritage site. Huangmiao Ancient Bridge is a key provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
