Lihua Temple Pagoda

Lihua Temple Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Lihua Temple Pagoda, located in the southwest corner of Xuanhua City (currently occupied by military forces), was originally built during the Yuan Dynasty and renovated in the 22nd year of the Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty. The pagoda stands 14 meters tall, has five stories and eight sides, features a lotus base at the bottom, and is topped with a cast iron finial. Each side of the second level has a niche, and each corner is adorned with horned animal ornaments. The structure is both aesthetically pleasing and finely crafted. According to research, Lihua Patriarch was a disciple of Japan’s Buddhist “Nichiren Sect”—the Japanese monk Nichi Ji, who came to China to promote the Lotus Sutra. He served as the abbot of Lihua Temple and attained nirvana there. In recent years, many Japanese monks have visited to pay homage. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Zhangjiakou City.
