Liangzhuang Site

The Liangzhuang Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hebei Province.

The Liangzhuang Site is a Neolithic site located about 100 meters south of Liangzhuang Village, approximately 14 kilometers southeast of Anxin County. The terrain is low-lying and usually waterlogged, but when water levels are low, the area is used as farmland and has been covered with reeds for many years. The site stretches 400 meters from east to west and 200 meters from north to south, covering an area of 80,000 square meters. The preservation condition of the site is generally intact. The Liangzhuang Site was discovered in April 1986, during which over 100 pieces of bone fossils, more than 50 fragments of clay pottery and brown pottery mixed with sand, and two stone axes were collected. In September of the same year, the Baoding Regional Cultural Relics Management Office, the History Department of Hebei University, and the Anxin County Culture Bureau jointly conducted an archaeological excavation of the site, uncovering an area of 37.5 square meters. The upper cultural layer of the Liangzhuang Site consists of greyish-yellow clay with relatively high viscosity, containing fragments of brown pottery mixed with sand and clam shells, clay fine pottery, clay grey pottery, as well as red burned earth blocks and animal bones. The lower cultural layer is composed of dark greyish-yellow sandy soil that is relatively loose, containing fragments of red pottery with nipple-like patterns, brown pottery mixed with clam shells and sand, and clay red-sand pottery. Based on the artifacts unearthed, the upper layer of the Liangzhuang Site is roughly dated to the early period of the Yangshao Culture.

The site was listed as a protected cultural heritage site of Hebei Province in 1982.
