Zibo Wenfeng Mountain Park

Wenfeng Mountain Park is located 1.5 kilometers south of Zichuan District, on Wenfeng Mountain southeast of Zhawang Village in Chengnan Town, covering an area of 260 hectares, including 142,000 square meters of water area.

It is said that Wenfeng Mountain was originally called East Mountain. During the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty, a young man named Li Antao from the Li family in the village studied diligently and passed the imperial examination to become a scholar, becoming the most educated person in the village. The scholar Li, while paying respects to his ancestors during a mountain climb, was filled with deep emotion and thus named the mountain Wenfeng. To express his affection for his hometown and his earnest hopes, the scholar raised funds to build the Wenchang Pavilion at the highest point of the mountain. The pavilion houses a statue depicting Wenchang Dijun Zhang Yaizi, the eternal patron of literature. According to research, Wenchang refers to a name in the Chinese astronomical constellation system, specifically the fourth star among the six stars of the Wenchang Palace. In ancient times, it was believed to govern literary fortune, hence it was also called the "Wenqu Star." Historical records state that Zhang Yaizi, a man from the Jin Dynasty, lived in Qiqu Mountain in Bashu, possessed literary talent, died in battle, and was later honored with a temple as a revered sage. During the Yuan Dynasty, he was posthumously titled Wenchang Dijun, known in Taoism as Zitong Dijun, the deity presiding over examinations and literary fortune. In ancient times, schools, guildhalls, and bookshops across the land often built shrines or pavilions in his honor, which can be seen as a form of traditional divine-human culture—this should not be regarded as mere superstition. The former Wenchang Pavilion stood proudly atop the peak, overlooking the rivers and mountains, echoing the Kuixing Tower in the southeastern corner of Zichuan District, and facing the General’s Head Hill west of the mountain village across the valley, forming a major cultural landmark of the central Shandong town of Panyang.
