Tanxi Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Tanxi Mountain Scenic Area is located in Taihe Town, Zichuan District, 38 kilometers southeast of the hometown of Pu Songling, the world’s “King of Short Stories.” At an elevation of 867 meters and covering a planned area of 9 square kilometers, the scenic area boasts lush vegetation, with forest coverage exceeding 80%, and air negative ion levels as high as about 100,000 per cubic centimeter, making it a naturally gifted “natural oxygen bar.”

Part of the Yishan branch of the Mengshan Mountain Range, the core scenic area spans 9 square kilometers with an extended area of 86 square kilometers. The area features majestic peaks, steep cliffs, and over ten large and small mountains, with the lowest peak at 388 meters and the highest reaching 820 meters. Beneath these towering peaks, ranges of mountains stretch and intertwine, forming nine main mountain ridges that resemble giant dragons descending from the sky, converging at the Nine Dragons Pool at the foot of the mountain. They stretch forth with majestic splendor. Between the ridges lie deep valleys, with murmuring streams at the bottom and oddly shaped rocks scattered throughout, offering thrilling sights and breathtaking wonders at every turn.

Each of Tanxi Mountain’s peaks has its own clear spring, and every valley is graced with a stream. High up, the Zhaoyang Cave houses the Sweet Dew Spring, the Three Teachings Shrine contains the Three Seal Spring, and beneath Beauty Peak lies the Tiger-Drinking Spring, among others. These crystal-clear springs either seep from rock crevices or drip from cliffs. In summer and autumn, they gush forth continuously; in winter and spring, they trickle down like strings of pearls. The mountain-top springs flow downward along the slopes, gathering into streams that twist and turn through each valley, transforming into waterfalls where they encounter cliffs, leaping and dancing as they surge forward, eventually converging into the crystal-clear Nine Dragons Pool at the base of the mountain. This creates the spectacular sight of “Nine Dragons Playing in Water at the Dragon-Gathering Pool,” a wonder on Earth.

Major attractions include: Tanxi Mountain Grand Waterfall, Ruyi Square, (take the sightseeing bus to) Sanzhai Pass, Watchtower, Breezy Vista, Heavenly Book Cliff, Dragon Ridge Peak, Auspicious Cloud Bridge, Immortal Sword Stone Totem, Three-Foot Ridge, Flying Pellet Embedded Stone, Split Mountain, 3,333-meter cliffside plank road, plank road caves, suspended temple ruins, Guardian Generals of the Fortress, Gaomen Cave, Children’s Playground. Descend via sightseeing bus or walk down along the Central Route.

Central Route: The full journey takes about 1 hour and features farmstead scenery and leisure entertainment. Major attractions include: Tanxi Mountain Grand Waterfall, Ruyi Square, Nine Dragons Pool, Tanxi Mountain Villa, Self-Intoxication Pavilion, Hidden Dragon Cave, Carefree Bridge, Farm Fields, Rear Sentry Stone Cottage, Cherry Valley, Turtle Pathfinding, Sister Waterfalls, Children’s Adventure Playground. Direction from Dongying, Weifang, Qingzhou, and Qing-Yan-Wei regions:

First arrive in Linzi — large vehicles from Qingzhou Miaozǐ must turn right — at Miaozǐ, turn onto Provincial Road 325 westbound; after 7 km, you’ll see the scenic area sign (turn left toward Taihe) — Taihe Town (Taihe Reservoir) — Tanxi Mountain Scenic Area

Small vehicles go straight south — Taihe Town (Taihe Reservoir) — Tanxi Mountain Scenic Area

Direction from Laiwu and Binzhou regions:

Exit Binlai Expressway at Zichuan entrance — follow Provincial Road 325 eastward (toward Qingzhou) to Heiwang — after seeing the scenic area sign, turn toward Taihe — Taihe Town (Ezhuang direction) — Tanxi Mountain Scenic Area

For Zhangdian visitors:

On Zhangbo Road, go east from Zichuan Overpass — follow Provincial Road 325 eastward to Heiwang — after seeing the scenic area sign, turn right toward Taihe — Jiugongdi — Taihe Town (Taihe Reservoir) — Tanxi Mountain Scenic Area

For Zichuan urban visitors:

From Hongshan Town (at the crossroads east of No. 15 Middle School) go east — turn left at Chongzheng Cement Factory fork — Heiyu Tunnel — Taihe

Taihe Town: Taihe Town was formed on November 6, 2010, through the merger of the former Taihe Township, Ezhua Township, and Zhihe Town. It is the largest town in area and has the most villages in Zichuan District, Zibo City, Shandong Province.

Taihe Town covers an area of 268.7 square kilometers and governs ninety-five administrative villages. It has a population of 59,000; 125 Party branches and 2,830 Party members; and 36,721 mu of arable land. It takes over an hour to drive from the town government to the most remote village, and visiting all 95 villages by vehicle takes a full two days.
