Shangduanshi Village is located in Taihe Town, Zichuan District, Zibo City, Shandong Province. Nestled against mountains and beside waters, it boasts picturesque scenery, a long-standing ethnic culture, and rich cultural landscapes. The village features uniquely arranged stone buildings, simple and traditional folk customs, as well as stories and beautiful legends such as those of Li Baxian, Li Juren, and the “Iron Brush” Li Zihua. Cultural landmarks include the Zhongyi Shrine, Yunfeng Taoist Temple, Confucius Essence Garden, and Wuju Tower. With its white-walled, grey-tiled houses, thatched eaves, stone mills, stone rollers, stone houses, and stone-paved roads, the village’s rustic charm and distinctive architecture have attracted numerous painters and photographers for sketching and inspiration. It has now been designated as a national art and photography creation base. As the Northern Song Dynasty statesman and poet Wang Anshi wrote in his poem “Lying Alone”: “At noon the eaves cast lingering shadows, the gate closed as moss grows and waters stray. Hidden amid the leaves, the orioles are lost to sight, yet countless crabapple blossoms bloom o’er the wall.” This verse perfectly captures the essence of Shangduanshi’s ancient village. Every day, hundreds of art students gather here from all over to paint, making it a unique sight on Yunming Mountain. The ancient Shangduanshi village has been recognized by cultural heritage authorities as having over 20,000 square meters of relatively well-preserved structures, and has been named a National Traditional Village and a Shandong Provincial Historical and Cultural Village.

Shangduanshi Village is home to the premier millennium-old ancient forest in central Shandong, as well as a thousand-year-old ancient street, traditional residences, the Zhongyi Shrine, Guan Yu Temple, Yunfeng Taoist Temple (Li Jiqing Memorial Shrine), Wuju Tower, Li Family Ancestral Tomb Steles, Shi’an Valley Ancient Tower, Stone Steed, the Eighteen Bends of Yunming Mountain, Yunming Ancient City (Qi Commandery Ancient City), Tianjie (Heavenly Street), Wenfeng Pavilion, Wolong Bridge, Wolong Scholar Tree, Cliff Cave, and Sacred Water Spring, among other cultural and natural attractions. Among these, the thousand-year-old ancient street has been designated as an ancient architectural complex protected area by Shandong Province.
