Santai Mountain Scenic Area

Santai Mountain Scenic Area is located east of Liuwu Reservoir in Kunlun Town, boasting abundant natural and cultural resources. It is one of the ancient Twenty-Four Scenic Spots of Banyang. With an elevation of 162 meters, the main peak lies to the west, Bian Mountain to the southeast, and Guangyoutou Mountain to the northeast. The summits of all three peaks feature relatively flat open areas, which, when viewed from below, resemble three platforms—hence the name "Santai" (Three Platforms) Mountain. It is also known as Zhiguoshan (Pot-Supporting Mountain) because the three peaks stand like legs of a tripod. Legend has it that when Zhu Yuanzhang was young, he herded cattle for a landlord who was extremely stingy. To teach the landlord a lesson, Zhu and his companions killed the cow, set up a pot, and cooked the meat. The three stones used to prop up the pot later grew into Santai Mountain. About three li to the north and east of the mountain lies a small earthen mound called Xiaohui Mountain, where they burned firewood and left behind ashes.

Santai Mountain is renowned for its densely distributed temples, grand and exquisite architecture, including seven halls, three palaces, four caves, two pavilions, and bell and drum towers. It is said to have been initially built during the Tang Dynasty and renovated during the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty. However, over the years, it suffered severe damage from weathering, wars, and the destruction of the "Four Olds" during the Cultural Revolution. In 2002, all the temple structures on Santai Mountain were newly reconstructed.
