Tomb of Su Qin in Zichuan

The Tomb of Su Qin in Zichuan is a Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Tomb of Su Qin in Zichuan is located in Chengnan Town, Zichuan District, Zibo City. It dates back to the Warring States period. On December 7, 2006, the tomb was designated as part of the third batch of Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.

The Tomb of Su Qin is located in Nansu Village, Economic Development Zone, Zichuan District (west of Nansuxiangqiao Village, Erlizhen). The earthen mound is about 5 meters high, 20 meters in diameter, and approximately 40 meters long, covering an area of around 1,000 square meters. It was listed as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit in 1984.

There was originally a bridge to the south of the tomb, named Suxiang Bridge, which was one of the Twenty-Four Scenic Spots of ancient Banyang.

According to the "Zichuan County Annals," "The tomb is suspected by later generations to be that of Su Qin, but there is no definitive evidence." Su Qin was a political strategist during the Warring States period who died in the State of Qi. The "Shandong General Annals" also mention a Suxiang Tomb northeast of Qingzhou City, though it remains unclear which one is the true site.

Exterior View

At the southern end of Nansu Village, there is a stone arch bridge. Not far north of the bridge stands a stone stele inscribed with “Municipal-Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit – Tomb of Su Qin,” erected by the Zibo Municipal Government in 1984. About 300 meters further north lies the Suxiang Tomb, which is about 5–6 meters high and covers nearly 2 mu (approximately 0.13 hectares) in area.

To the east of the tomb, the village committee of Nansu Village has newly erected a stone stele. The stele is 2 meters tall and 1 meter wide. The front bears the horizontal inscription “Light of the Six Directions” and the vertical text “Tomb of Duke Su of the Eastern Zhou, Prime Minister of the Six States · Courtesy Name · Qin · Ji Zi.” The back features an epitaph meticulously written by Mr. Wang Weizhi, owner of the Baixue Studio — “Inscription on the Tomb Stele of Su Qin,” which details Su Qin’s historical achievements and faults: “During the Eastern Zhou era, a commoner traveled to persuade the seven states, was appointed prime minister of six, and achieved such unparalleled honor from ancient times to the present — apart from Su Qin, how many can be counted?”

To the right of the stele, skilled artisans have carved two game boards, shaded by green trees providing a cool canopy.

Current Status

The loyal spirit rests in the green hills. The bridge is named after the prime minister, and the village takes its name from the bridge. Suxiang Bridge Village has evolved through the ages, with its residents thriving and multiplying, eventually splitting into two separate villages: Nansu and Beisu. Especially since the reform and opening-up, the area has undergone a remarkable transformation. The village committee has assessed the situation and boldly embarked on tourism development, leveraging the influence of this historical figure. The project planning is divided into two phases: the first phase covers an area of 40,000 square meters (over 60 mu), while the second phase spans more than 600 mu, including a Suxiang Tomb sightseeing area, a specialty farm zone, a riverside water play area, and parking facilities. This aims to create a new tripartite tourism layout alongside the former residences of Pu Songling and the Zitong Mountain Scenic Area.
