The German and Japanese Architectural Complex of Zibo Mining Group

The German and Japanese Architectural Complex of Zibo Mining Group is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The German and Japanese architectural complex of the Zibo Mining Bureau is located at the former site of the bureau’s headquarters in Zibo City. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty and the Republican era.

The German and Japanese architectural complex of the Zibo Mining Bureau is located in the office area and surrounding areas of Shandong Energy Zibo Mining Group in Hongshan Town, Zichuan District, Zibo. It covers a total land area of 4,661 square meters and a total building area of 7,179 square meters. In terms of architectural style, it is a modern complex influenced by Western design, blending features of Art Nouveau architecture with simplified traditional regional styles. Most of the buildings are in the German style, with some in the Japanese style.

Economy, politics, war, transportation, and foreign aggression can all alter the trajectory of a city’s growth, leading to different developmental histories and architectural styles among cities.

On December 7, 2006, the German and Japanese Architectural Complex of the Zibo Mining Bureau was announced by the People’s Government of Shandong Province as part of the third batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units in Shandong.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) designated the German and Japanese Architectural Complex of Zibo Mining Group as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
