Red Liuji Tourism Area

The Red Liuji Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Dongying Guangrao Liuji Red Tourism Area is located in Liuji Village, Dawang Town, and was the birthplace of the Liuji Branch of the Chinese Communist Party in the spring of 1925. The Liuji Branch was one of the first four rural party branches in Shandong Province. The former site of the Liuji Branch is the cradle of the Communist organization in Guangrao County and holds an extremely important position and role in the history of rural party building in Shandong Province. In 1925, Liu Zijiu and Liu Yuhui (female), Chinese Communists working in Jinan, along with Yan Bozhen, brought back to their hometown of Liuji Village the Chinese translation of *The Communist Manifesto* published in August 1920 by early communist Chen Wangdao. They handed it over to Comrade Liu Liangcai, the secretary of the Liuji Branch, for safekeeping. Thus, inspired by this book “with the big beard,” the spark of revolution was lit. It is the earliest Chinese translation of *The Communist Manifesto* in China. In 1976, the former site of the Liuji Branch was designated as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit. In 1996, it was declared a municipal patriotic education base and also recognized as an advanced unit of the provincial national defense education base.

The Liuji Red Tourism Area features the former site of the branch and an exhibition hall displaying the branch’s brief history. The former site has been restored to reflect the living conditions of the time. Facilities such as concealed doors and tunnels, specially made to shield underground revolutionary activities during the era of white terror, recreate the harsh struggle environment of those years and the indomitable revolutionary spirit of the martyrs. The history exhibition hall is a classical-style building with traditional upturned eaves and corridors on the exterior. The exhibit area is divided into two parts: pictorial and textual displays, and cultural relics, vividly introducing the heroic deeds of revolutionary pioneers such as Liu Zijiu and Liu Liangcai, as well as the Liuji Branch’s role in igniting the revolution. During the early revolutionary struggles, the Liuji Branch used and preserved the first Chinese edition of *The Communist Manifesto*. This edition, first translated by Mr. Chen Wangdao and published in August 1920, is the only known precious document disseminated, used, and preserved by a rural party organization to date, and is classified as a national first-class revolutionary cultural relic.

Liuji is a land of red heritage, and its people are rich in revolutionary tradition. In the spring of 1925, one of the earliest rural party branches in Shandong Province and even the whole country was established here. It used and preserved the first Chinese edition of *The Communist Manifesto*, and nurtured a large number of devoted sons and daughters of the Party, such as Liu Liangcai, Liu Zijiu, and Liu Yuhui.

Dawang Town boasts abundant tourism resources, including a 30,000-mu Zhinü River Ecological Forest Farm, and the construction of Junjiang Lake and Yinma Lake with a combined water storage capacity of 6 million cubic meters. The Zhinü River connects to the Yang River, the Fengshui Old Course River links to both lakes, and the Bezhan River connects to the Zihe River. Relying on multiple red landmarks such as the Former Site Memorial Hall of the Liuji Branch of the CCP, the *Communist Manifesto* Memorial Hall, the General Zhang Taiheng Memorial Hall, and the Yanji Branch of the CCP Memorial Hall, Dawang Town has established the national AAAA-level Red Liuji Tourism Area covering 40,000 mu. The area also features special attractions such as an adventure center, fruit-picking zones, fishing areas, and water recreation zones. It is a comprehensive holiday resort integrating education, leisure, sightseeing, tourism, catering, and entertainment. Visitors can receive red education while also experiencing local green leisure and sightseeing culture.
