Shengmengting Ancient Tomb Cluster

The Shengmengting Ancient Tomb Cluster is a cultural relic protection unit of Dongying City.

The Shengmengting Ancient Tomb Cluster is located about 200 meters north of Shengmengting Village, La’an Subdistrict, Guangrao County. It was re-surveyed in March 2009 during the third national survey of immovable cultural relics conducted by Guangrao County. Investigations and explorations revealed that the cluster consists of five tombs, three of which still have earthen mounds. Tomb No. 1 is located about 120 meters due east of the protection marker stele, with an earthen mound about 2 meters high and covering an area of approximately 100 square meters; Tomb No. 2 is located about 20 meters northwest of Tomb No. 1, with an earthen mound about 1 meter high and covering an area of around 60 square meters; Tomb No. 3 is located about 20 meters northeast of Tomb No. 2, with an earthen mound about 1.5 meters high and covering an area of approximately 90 square meters; Tomb No. 4 is located about 20 meters due west of the protection marker stele, with no earthen mound, but gray pottery bricks were discovered through drilling; Tomb No. 5 is located about 20 meters due south of Tomb No. 4, also without an earthen mound, but gray pottery bricks were found through drilling. The tomb cluster is situated within the Shengmengting site, covering a total area of about 2,000 square meters. Based on the scattered bricks and other evidence around the site, it is estimated that the cluster dates back to the Han Dynasty. The existence of this tomb cluster provides important physical material for the study of burial structures and funeral customs in the region during the Han Dynasty. It was designated as part of the third batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in 2017.
