Dongzhao Salt Industry Site

The Dongzhao Salt Industry Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Dongying City.

The Dongzhao Salt Industry Site is located around Dongzhao Village in Huaguan Town, Guangrao County. It was first discovered on December 29, 2008, during the third national cultural relics survey, and is an ancient cultural site dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The site spans approximately 900 meters from east to west and about 1,000 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 900,000 square meters. Drilling surveys revealed that the cultural layer is relatively close to the surface, appearing dark brown in color, with uneven stratification. The thickest part reaches 0.6 meters and contains materials such as plant ash, gray pottery bricks, and ceramic shards. Artifacts exposed on the surface include a large number of pottery fragments and kiln blanks related to salt production. The pottery is mainly gray pottery, decorated mostly with cord patterns, and includes artifacts such as helmet-shaped vessels, li tripods, and tubular tiles. The site covers a large area, has a deep cultural layer, and contains rich materials, providing important physical evidence for studying the historical evolution of the region north of the Xiaoqing River in Guangrao, as well as the history of salt production. It holds significant historical value and was designated as part of the third batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in 2017.

Huaguan Town: Huaguan Township is located 15 kilometers north of Guangrao County, bordered by the Xiaoqing River to the south. The Xin (Dian)–He (Kou) Highway runs through the township from north to south, and rural roads extend in all directions. The township covers a total area of 117.3 square kilometers, comprises 39 administrative villages, and has a population of 38,000. It has a long history of garlic cultivation and is known as the “Hometown of Garlic.” The area is rich in underground oil and gas resources and is a major production zone of the Laian Oilfield.
