Guangrao Dongguan Site

The Guangrao Dongguan Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Dongying City.

The Dongguan Site is located to the north of Dongguan Village, La’an Subdistrict, Guangrao County. The site is higher in the middle and gradually slopes downward toward the edges, with an overall flat terrain. It stretches 300 meters from east to west and 250 meters from north to south, covering a total area of approximately 75,000 square meters. It is an ancient cultural site dating from the Longshan Culture period to the Han Dynasty. The site has rich cultural content, with cultural layers about 3 meters thick. From the surface down to roughly 3 meters underground, the area is filled with debris such as broken bricks and tiles, and the soil is blackish-gray in color. The Guangrao County Museum has conducted multiple on-site surveys of the Dongguan Site and collected a large number of cultural relics and samples, including pottery gui (a type of vessel) and li (a type of tripod) from the Longshan Culture period; bronze swords from the Warring States period; and gray clay dou (tripod) plates and gray clay roof tiles from the Han Dynasty. Additionally, in 1978, 92 knife coins from the Qi State were unearthed at the site. The Dongguan Site is a large ancient cultural site with rich cultural content and significant archaeological research value. Its discovery is of great importance for studying the production, daily life, and distribution of early humans around the Xiaoqing River. Currently, the Dongguan Site remains largely intact with minimal damage and is worthy of key preservation. It was designated as part of the second batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in 2005.

La’an Subdistrict: Guangrao Economic Development Zone (La’an Subdistrict Office) is a provincial-level economic development zone approved by the People’s Government of Shandong Province. It governs 77 villages with a population of about 70,000 and has a total planned area of 100 square kilometers. It serves as a window and base for Guangrao County to develop an export-oriented economy and promote all-round opening up. In March 2006, it successfully passed the national development and reform commission’s review and acceptance for provincial-level development zones; in December of the same year, it was rated as one of the “Top Ten Most Economically Dynamic Parks in Shandong” by the Shandong County Economy Research Association and nine other organizations.
