Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Yang’erzhuang

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Yang’erzhuang is located within a compound 150 meters east of Yang’erzhuang Village, BACHALU Town, Linqing City.

On March 25, 1943, puppet troops from the Wan Zhuang outpost invaded Yang’erzhuang. Under the command of Captain Wang Jiaxiang, the militia rose to fight back and repelled seven or eight consecutive assaults by the Japanese and puppet forces. On the night of April 28, the Japanese and puppet troops attacked Yang’erzhuang again. At 3 a.m. on the fifth day of the eighth lunar month, the Japanese and puppet troops stormed the village once more. The militia and villagers, following the original deployment by their party branch, fought calmly. Due to the disparity in equipment, the enemy blasted open the southwest gate with artillery. The militia risked their lives to break through to the pine forest north of the gate. More than 20 were shot and killed during the breakout, while the remaining militia continued to fight fiercely but were ultimately overwhelmed and martyred due to being outnumbered. In this battle, a total of 37 militiamen lost their lives, with many others seriously wounded. On May 18, Xie Fang, director of the Weidong Office, held a memorial service in Pengdian. Liu Dianchen, secretary of the Weidong County Work Committee of the CPC, declared the militiamen who died in the “Eight-Five” battle as revolutionary martyrs, and a monument was erected in their honor.

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Yang’erzhuang currently consists of three stone tablets and ten pine trees, all well-preserved.

Every year on Tomb-Sweeping Day, many students and local residents come to pay their respects, lay flowers, and mourn the fallen.

Bachalu Town: Bachalu Town is located southwest of Linqing City, 20 kilometers from the urban area, and borders Guan County to the south. Within the town, Provincial Highway 102 runs north-south, while the Yanshang Road crosses east-west. All villages in the town are connected by asphalt roads, making transportation very convenient. In 2002, the total social output value was 150 million yuan, including 60 million yuan from industry, fiscal revenue of 5.4 million yuan, and an average per capita income of 2,530 yuan.
