Introduction to Zhangguolao Mountain in Xingtai Zhangguolao Mountain is located 15 kilometers west of Xingtai City. According to an ancient Tang Dynasty stele on the mountain, it was originally named Wufeng Mountain. A Taoist priest from Guangzong, Zhang Guo, lived in seclusion and practiced here, eventually becoming one of the Eight Immortals. Emperor Li Longji of the Tang Dynasty, who revered Laozi as his ancestor and promoted Taoism while suppressing Buddhism, bestowed the title of "Immortal Elder" upon Zhang Guo. He then renamed Wufeng Mountain in Xingtai to Xianweng Mountain, built a Qixia Temple for Zhang Guo, and renamed the cave in the temple to Xianweng Cave. As early as the Ming Dynasty, the "Ancient Cave of the Immortal Elder" was celebrated as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Xingtai. The pines and cypresses of Zhangguolao Mountain are truly unique—twisted pines cover the sunny side of the mountain, while arrowhead pines form a distinctive scene on the shady side. Midway up the mountain stands a thousand-year-old "Bitter Dream Tree," a pagoda tree that is even more extraordinary. It blooms at dawn on the eighth day of the third lunar month during the temple fair, filling the air with a fragrant scent. By the time the temple fair ends in the evening, the flowers have also withered, adding a touch of magic to the annual event.
