Tangwang Lake

Tangwang Lake is located in the southern part of Zoucheng City, at the intersection of Shunhe Road and Yishan Road. It lies to the north of the museum, to the south of the Tangwanghu Residential Area, to the east of the picturesque Hujia Mountain, and to the west of the nationally protected key cultural sites—the Meng Temple and Meng Mansion. Two major water systems flow into Tangwang Lake upstream: one is a stream formed by seepage from the culvert of Mengzi Lake, which flows continuously with a gentle murmur, passing through Wulong Pool before entering Bishui Lake; the other is the water system from Tangwang Mountain and Jiejia Mountain, which winds through Jiuli Ravine and Quyangou with numerous twists and turns before directly flowing into Tangwang Lake. The name “Tangwang Lake” comes from its location at the foot of Tangwang Mountain and the inflow of the Tangwang Mountain water system.

Tangwang Lake was first built in 1994. The lake has an irregular rectangular shape, stretching 750 meters from east to west,

150 meters from north to south, covering an area of 450 mu. The 4-meter-high stone embankment surrounding the lake stretches approximately 1,800 meters in total. The entire lake is divided into four sections by bridges running north-south and roads running east-west, forming a field-like framework, with the lake surface creating a “cross slope.” The northern scenic area features, from west to east, a lotus pond, Shuangdao Lake, and Bishui Lake. The eastern lakeshore is naturally winding and uneven. With a gentle breeze, the lake ripples layer upon layer, revealing pebbles and fish that “seem to rejoice with the visitors.”

In the middle of the lake stands a stone arch bridge, 75 meters long, named the “Guangjing Bridge” (Scenic View Bridge). Standing atop the bridge, one can gaze around to see shimmering waves, distant painted pleasure boats, a continuous stream of visitors, the fragrance of lotus flowers wafting through the air, and the soft melodies of music carrying emotions. Along the lakeshore, weeping willows sway gracefully, accompanied by the chirping of birds. Flower beds along the path are densely planted with roses, red peonies, crabapple blossoms, osmanthus, and holly—exotic and vibrant flowers competing in beauty and splendor. Beneath the bridge, standing at the crossroads on the lake’s central “slope,” about twenty meters to the east, lies the “Shuangdao Lake” sightseeing area. There is a uniquely shaped stone bridge with a round arch and dome top, called the “Wanghu Bridge” (Lake-Viewing Bridge). Climbing onto this bridge and looking out, the sky and water blend into one hue. With a gentle breeze brushing your face, it feels as if you are riding the wind—echoing the poetic line “Arriving at the end of the water, sit and watch the clouds rise.” It’s like falling into a fairyland, intoxicating and mesmerizing, a state where self and surroundings merge, and worldly worries such as officialdom frustrations, financial woes, and interpersonal troubles seem to vanish in an instant. Tangwang Lake is like an elegant and graceful lady. With green mountains reflecting in the clear waters, weeping willows playing with gentle ripples, fish frolicking with cloud shadows, the beautiful scenery is utterly enchanting. Especially when paired with the ancient architectural complex on the north shore of the lake, the cultural relics museum, the glaze-tiled “Xianghe Pavilion” with upturned eaves, and the antique-style Yasheng Tourism Street, they complement each other beautifully, blending history with modernity. This integration has allowed Zoucheng’s urban development to organically merge its profound historical and cultural essence with a vibrant, progressive spirit of the times. It showcases the youthful vibrancy and charm of Zoucheng.
