Mount Hugua

Mount Hugua is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Mount Hugua is located 2.5 kilometers southeast of the city, to the east of Tangwang Lake Park, with an elevation of 215.7 meters. Legend has it that during the transition from the Sui to the Tang Dynasty, when Li Shimin was being pursued by enemy forces and passed through the area of Zoucheng, the enemies were about to catch up with him when suddenly a large mountain rose from the ground behind him, blocking the path of the pursuers and saving his life. Later, after Li Shimin became emperor, he named the mountain ‘Hugua’ (Protect the Emperor) to honor its life-saving role. There are springs at the front and back of the mountain; the water flows down the slopes from east to west into Tangwang Lake, which locals humorously refer to as “water flowing backward in front of a sage.” Nestled in a corner of Zoucheng’s southeastern urban area, Mount Hugua forms a scenic ensemble with the Tangwang River and Tangwang Lake, adding extra charm to this historic and cultural city.
