Eighteen Passages Scenic Area

The Eighteen Passages Forest Farm is a national-level forest park, located about 18 kilometers northwest of Chengqian Town, in the former Shanghe area on the northern edge of the forest farm. It is surrounded by a long mountain stream that winds from the northeast to the southwest for four or five kilometers. In the past, there were no paths on the mountain, so people and horses had to make their way along both sides of the river, winding back and forth across the water eighteen times before they could get through this mountain valley. Later generations therefore named the area along both banks of the river “Eighteen Passages.” In the 1970s, three villages—Dadai’an, Xiaodai’an, and Beiwang—jointly carried out afforestation and greening efforts in the Eighteen Passages. The area was closed off for over twenty years, eventually becoming the Eighteen Passages Forest Farm. The forest farm boasts beautiful scenery, picturesque landscapes, and lush vegetation. The main tree species include Japanese red pine, Chinese arborvitae, black locust, poplar, and willow. The forest is shaded by green trees and rich in wildlife resources, complemented by a constant flow of mountain streams, creating an excellent ecological environment that attracts large numbers of tourists every year.
