Lipeiyu Site

The Lipeiyu Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Zoucheng City.

The Lipeiyu Site is located on the summit of Changshan Mountain at the northern end of Fushan Mountain, north of Lipeiyu Village in Gukou Township. It was first discovered in 1964 by the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The terrain of the site is relatively flat with thin soil layers, featuring only one ancient cultural layer about 0.3 meters thick, which contains red pottery shards, flat adze-shaped tripod leg fragments, deer antlers, and thick clam shells. It has been identified as a late Dawenkou culture site from the Neolithic Age, dating back approximately 6,000 years. It is a rare ancient site built atop a mountain in central and southern Shandong, with the highest elevation in the region. In 1978, the site was designated as a key cultural heritage protection unit of Zoucheng City.
