Tomb of Liu Bao from the Western Jin Dynasty
The Tomb of Liu Bao from the Western Jin Dynasty is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.
The Tomb of Liu Bao from the Western Jin Dynasty is located 1.5 kilometers northwest of Dushan Village in Guoli Town. According to the *Zou County Annals*, “The tombs of Emperor Fuxi and his empress, commonly known as the Twin Kings’ Mounds, are situated fifty li southwest of the city. There are two ancient burial mounds covering an area of approximately two mu, standing two zhang tall, and are widely referred to as the tombs of Emperor Fuxi and his empress.” The two mounds are arranged diagonally from the northwest to the southeast, with the one in the southeast being slightly larger (designated as Tomb No. 1), standing 12 meters tall, with a north-south diameter of 35 meters and an east-west diameter of 40 meters. It features rammed earth layers that are relatively loose, with a layer of flat stone slabs laid every meter. The mound in the northwest is slightly smaller than the one in the northeast (designated as Tomb No. 2).
From February to June 1974, the Zou County Cultural Relics Preservation Office conducted an excavation and cleanup of Tomb No. 1. The tomb chamber faces south and is built with its back to the north, featuring a long, sloping entrance passage. The tomb door consists of double stone panels with pivot hinges. The chamber is divided into an antechamber, left and right side chambers, and a rear chamber. It measures 8.75 meters in length (north-south), 2.75 meters in width (east-west), and 2.7 meters in height. The ceiling is made of arched brick vaults, the floor is paved with square bricks, and the walls are constructed from blue bricks. The tomb had been looted, but the remaining artifacts unearthed include celadon ware, glazed pottery, a bronze Boshan incense burner, and a bronze cosmetic box. Pottery items include tomb guardians, light carriages, ox-drawn carts, warrior figurines, eunuch figurines, as well as models of stoves, wells, mortars, and latrines. Particularly precious finds include a Western Jin bone ruler and a set of Go stones. The Go stones were stored in a pottery box, totaling 232 pieces—natural sea pebbles with no signs of processing. An epitaph found on the right side of the antechamber documents that the tomb belongs to Liu Bao from the Western Jin Dynasty, not the tombs of Emperor Fuxi and his empress.
