Golden Turtle Mountain

Golden Turtle Mountain is located northwest of Guoli and southeast of Gao Li Village. Its shape resembles a bixi (a mythical turtle-like creature), hence the name “Golden Turtle Mountain.” Legend has it that long ago, the village suffered from severe drought, and the people were tormented by thirst, barely surviving. A passerby collapsed on the ground, and the kind-hearted villagers shared the little water they had with him. Deeply grateful, before leaving, he told the villagers: “I am a thousand-year-old turtle, and I will definitely repay you in the future.” After a long time, torrential rain poured down, and the village was on the verge of being flooded. The people gathered at the entrance of the village felt themselves slowly rising and realized that the entire village was being carried on the back of a giant turtle floating on the floodwaters. A few days later, the flood receded, and all the villagers were saved, but the old turtle had exhausted all its energy. After its death, its body turned into a mountain — the present-day Golden Turtle Mountain.
