He Jingzhi, a renowned contemporary Chinese poet, playwright, former Vice Minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, and acting Minister of Culture, was originally from Heyao Village in Taierzhuang. For over half a century, his brilliant literary achievements, consistent artistic principles, and outstanding contributions to China’s ideological landscape in the new era have earned him widespread acclaim and international fame.

The He Jingzhi and Ke Yan Literature Museum is located by the picturesque ancient canal of Taierzhuang. The entire architectural complex features a unique, classic, and elegant style. After renovation and expansion in 2015, the exhibition area covers 1,200 square meters, divided into the He Jingzhi Exhibition Hall and the Ke Yan Exhibition Hall. It includes an exhibition hall, a film and video room, a library, a calligraphy and painting hall, a lecture hall, a resource room, and a VIP room. The museum comprehensively introduces the life journeys and remarkable literary accomplishments of He Jingzhi and his wife Ke Yan, vividly showcasing the demeanor of a generation of poets, writers, dramatists, and literary theorists. The museum houses over 10,000 books from the collections of He Jingzhi and Ke Yan, more than 300 physical exhibits, over 200 precious photographs, and displays over 200 authentic calligraphic works by notable figures. It serves as an authoritative research base for literature, offering abundant resources and comprehensive content to support literary studies. It also acts as a window to promote the Party’s literary and artistic ideologies, guidelines, and the fine traditions of revolutionary literature, as well as national and contemporary spirits. Additionally, it is an excellent platform for nurturing emerging literary talents and fostering new creative works.

These works have inspired and motivated generations of young people. His significant contributions to China’s ideological landscape in the new era have also earned him widespread recognition and international fame.

To revisit the growth and creative journey of Comrade He Jingzhi, study and promote his literary ideology, works, and artistic principles, uphold the fine traditions of national culture, adhere to the progressive direction of advanced culture, occupy the cultural sphere with advanced ideas, establish a distinctive local cultural brand, provide patriotic education for primary and secondary school students, the Taierzhuang District Committee and District Government invested 3 million yuan in October 1996 to build the He Jingzhi Literature Museum.

Covering an area of 4,800 square meters, the He Jingzhi Literature Museum is a national AA-level tourist site and an important part of the Zaozhuang two-day tour itinerary. It is situated by the scenic ancient canal, adjacent to the Taierzhuang Battle Memorial Hall to the east and facing the battle site—the Taierzhuang Railway Station—across the river to the west. It forms part of the Taierzhuang Battle tourism and cultural landscape. The 1,800-square-meter antique-style building features a unique, classic, and elegant design that complements the profound culture of the ancient canal. With 3,000 square meters of green space, the area remains lush year-round and fragrant in three seasons. The museum includes an exhibition hall, a film and video room, a calligraphy and painting hall, a living quarters recreation, and a “White-Haired Girl” theater. Through text modeling, book art, physical collections, famous calligraphy and paintings, and film and video materials, the museum presents a comprehensive, dynamic, and intuitive introduction to He Jingzhi’s life and outstanding literary achievements. It displays over 1,200 photographic materials, nearly 100 high-quality pottery pieces produced in Heyao, and other valuable artifacts, along with a collection of over 6,000 books, 29 famous inkstones from various regions, and over 500 minutes of precious video material reflecting He Jingzhi’s growth and immense contributions to modern Chinese literature. The calligraphy and painting hall showcases over 400 authentic calligraphic works by central leaders and cultural figures such as Zhang Aiping, Wang Xuezhong, Zang Kejia, and others. It serves as an exhibition center, historical archive, and research hub for He Jingzhi’s literature, as well as a research center for the intangible cultural aspects of the profound canal culture.

As a bastion of socialist spiritual civilization, the He Jingzhi Literature Museum upholds the banner of advanced socialist culture, resolutely implements the Scientific Outlook on Development, and adheres to a development strategy that equally emphasizes literary training and the enhancement of the site itself. In site construction, it actively explores forward-looking paths such as scaling up and industrialization. In practicing the progressive direction of advanced culture, the museum fully leverages its role as a promotional window and educational base. It expands connections and exchanges with literary groups, colleges, and universities, utilizing its comprehensive resources, broad artistic network, and unique literary atmosphere to serve as a vital platform and bridge, dedicated to the flourishing and development of socialist literature and art. In January 2009, it was designated by the municipal Party committee and government as the city’s sole “Literary and Artistic Creation Practice Base,” and in July 2009, it was established as a “Social Practice Base for Primary, Secondary, and University Students.”

With its classic canal charm, beautiful natural scenery, and the unique integration of revolutionary, contemporary, and artistic elements, the He Jingzhi Literature Museum serves as an important platform for the Taierzhuang District to implement the core socialist values and promote spiritual civilization. It is also a key site for providing patriotic and revolutionary tradition education to young students. Its distinct cultural appeal adds new vibrancy to Taierzhuang, making it a uniquely charming cultural tourism destination by the ancient canal.

1. Zaozhuang Railway Station offers high-speed rail services between Beijing South, Shanghai Hongqiao, Tianjin West, Nanjing South, Jinan West, Qingdao, Hangzhou, and Xuzhou East. Travelers from these areas can conveniently use the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Zaozhuang West Railway Station has trains connecting major provincial capitals within and outside Shandong Province.

2. Zaozhuang does not have an airport. Nearby options include Linyi Airport in Shandong, Xuzhou Guanyin Airport, and Lianyungang Baitabu Airport. From these airports, transfer to other transportation modes to reach Taierzhuang. Visitors with the means may also choose self-driving.

Local bus fare in Taierzhuang is one yuan, with no ticket conductor.
