Zaozhuang City’s Taierzhuang Canal Wetland Park is China’s first wetland park primarily centered around a canal wetland. It mainly consists of riverine wetlands such as the lower section of the Taogou River, the lower section of the Yicheng Dashaha Flood Diversion Channel, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal section between the two river mouths. These wetlands encircle the urban area of Taierzhuang, representing a typical riverine wetland. The planned total area is 2,592 hectares. Its nature and positioning are based on the premise of protecting and restoring wetland resources, with the Taierzhuang Canal wetland ecosystem and historical culture as the main landscape features, and wetland sightseeing, science education, and vacation leisure as the core offerings. This makes it a comprehensive wetland park. In terms of ecological restoration and protection projects within the canal wetland park, efforts have focused on maintaining wetland ecological balance, protecting wetland ecological functions, safeguarding the water quality of the canal, and preserving wetland biodiversity—achieving sustainable development of the ecosystem.
