Gantang Park

Gantang Park is located on Gantang Lake on the southern bank of the Yangtze River in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Covering an area of about 80 hectares, it is a natural lake with “its own source of living water.” During the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the famous Wu Kingdom general Zhou Yu once trained his naval forces here. When the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi served as the Sima (military governor) of Jiangzhou, he built a pavilion in the middle of the lake and named it “Immersion Moon Pavilion” after the line “Parting beneath the moon-drenched river’s vast expanse” from his poem “Song of the Pipa.” Later, during the Northern Song Dynasty, it was renamed “Mist and Water Pavilion,” evoking the image of “mountain hues and water reflections veiled in a thin mist.”
