Former Site of the British Asiatic Apartments

The former site of the British Asiatic Apartments is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Asiatic Trading Company Apartments is located on the west side inside the courtyard at No. 120-1 Pengpu Road, Jiujiang City. The site faces south and consists of a main building and an auxiliary building, both two stories high. The main building is 20.23 meters wide, 15.8 meters deep, and 13.4 meters tall. It is a two-story brick-and-wood structure with a hip roof, covered with red clay tiles, and features a fireplace chimney on the roof. The eaves are equipped with drainage pipes, and the corners of the eaves and window sills are finished with cement mortar mixed lines. The ground floor’s east and west facades feature corridors formed by eight wall bricks serving as pillars. The auxiliary building is located to the south of the main building and is of a brick-concrete structure. It is 23.15 meters wide, 4.5 meters deep, and 6.55 meters tall, with a flat roof and a drying terrace, surrounded by railings. The distance between the main and auxiliary buildings is about 2 meters, and a staircase connects the second floor and the rooftop terrace. This apartment served as housing for foreign employees of the Asiatic Trading Company and is an ancillary structure belonging to the company.
